How to crochet the edge of the product

To give a just-connected thing a finished look, you need to carefully tie its edge. In this case, the knitted fabric will no longer twist, since its edges will become stiff, the old thing will take on a completely new look. This fairly simple job can be done in various ways.

We bring to your attention video tutorials that tell you how to properly tie the edges of knitted products in various ways. It’s easy to master them, and soon you will be able to give your work the beautiful look that they acquire after tying.

Single crochet

A very simple binding of the edge, quite understandable for beginners. The first row is knitted with single crochet, in the second and third rows a French net is formed, and on the fourth row fans are made up of eight columns made with a crochet. This series is the most beautiful. The result is a border with a pattern composed of semicircular elements, the basis of which are connected fans.

For any fabric, it is enough to knit the first source row, and then you can form a pattern. From it you get a good edging collar dressing gowns. It is simply sewn to the base material.

Harnessing the edge "Rachch step"

Tied in this way, the edge becomes flat and dense, resembling a pigtail. This method ties the armholes and necks, the edges of the sides of knitted clothing created with knitting needles or crochet. This seam reinforces the edges of pockets and scarves. The method got its name because it is not formed in the usual direction from right to left, but rather, as if backing away.

You can use the same thread for tying the thing itself, but this thread can be taken in a different color: the color border looks neat on any knitted thing, decorating its overall design with an unexpected frame.

Trimming the edges with "pompoms"

This beautiful finish consists of small pompoms, each of which is attached to the edge of the material with two columns. The result is a zigzag pattern, where at the top of each zigzag is a neat pompom. The pattern looks very beautiful and smart. It can be used to decorate such large items as knitted blankets, shawls or pillows.

The use of “pompoms” creates a design that complements and emphasizes a knitted pattern that was used on the basic thing. Despite the apparent complexity of the pattern, it is created very simply and quite accessible even for beginners.

Beading edge trim

This method of tying the edges of knitwear is extremely simple, but looks spectacular. From four single crochet columns a small bead is formed, dense and neat. A number of such beads, located close to one another, can arrange products that are tightly connected, but they can also be used for patterned rugs or shawls.

The binding is not necessarily done along a straight edge; you can also tie pattern surfaces, and even wavy edges. The resulting volumetric strapping of the edge looks very beautiful if it is made in a different color, contrasting with the color of the main knitting thread.

Beautiful and simple strapping

If there is a desire not only to strengthen the edges of the knit with the banding, but to decorate them with an interesting pattern, try this knitting option. Simple columns form their interweaving, and we get a pattern with arches and openings, repeating in two tiers.

Despite the complexity of the pattern, it is quite simple to get it - you just need not to get confused in the alternation of loops and in the arrangement of repeating columns. The pattern can be based on a completely arbitrary form of knitted loops, it can be turned over to any knitted thing, regardless of whether it was crocheted or knitted. It will turn out beautifully anyway.

Sink Edge

Five single crochet columns tied into the same loop form a small neat shell in which the loops form the edge and the columns form fan-shaped waves, as on a real sink. This is a simple and interesting way to crochet the edge of the product, giving the edge of any knitwear an interesting look.

It is especially impressive if the shells are knitted of a thread of a different color than the main product, the resulting contrasting pattern perfectly frames any knitting. Even if the product is obtained in the simplest way of knitting, its fringing in a similar way gives it an interesting unusual look.

Napkin edge binding

Crocheting the edge for napkins or kerchiefs is offered in several versions. Napkins can be any, linen and silk, depending on the thickness of the fabric, the thickness of the thread used for the edging is also chosen. It is quite possible to use a bobbin thread number 20-30 in tone napkins or in a contrasting color.

A handkerchief is cut from the fabric strictly in the direction of the threads. In one centimeter from each edge one thread is pulled out, and for the resulting grooves we begin to do the strapping. A chain of loops is created along the edge of the napkin, which becomes the basis of the pattern created from the threads.

Trimming the edge with a caterpillar

Turning over the knitting periodically and using the instructions of the pattern creation scheme, we get a rather thick cord along the edge of the knitted thing, resembling a caterpillar in its appearance. A method is also proposed for knitting such a pattern without turning over the entire work, intercepting the hook, which is convenient if a dimensional shawl or blanket is knitted, which is inconvenient to turn over.

It describes in detail how to get a “caterpillar” on indirect, rounded knitting edges, both on convex and on concave. In this way, the sleeves, the gates, the lower edge of the product and even the edges of the hats are tied. It turns out a very decorative pattern.

Small rim from one row

A small pattern is knitted from half columns fixed on every third loop of the row, and two loops are skipped. The result is a fringing of repeating small semicircles following one after another. This border can be connected in a circle, for this detailed instructions are also given.

A large border is not for any thing will come in handy, but still I want to somehow improve the appearance. Here, in this case, the small border is ideal, which can be knitted from the same thread as the thing itself, or from yarn of a contrasting color. It is quite possible to decorate even a patterned knitted thing with such a border.

Border patterns

We offer a workshop on knitting borders. In every third loop of the thing to be tied, a set of columns is made, which forms small neat semicircles. It turns out to be a simple, but very nice edging with a pattern of small semicircles.

This pattern can fringe both continuous knitting and patterned, organize the edges of rugs and shawls, sweaters and cardigans. He will add grace and airiness to any pattern of the main fabric, perfectly harmonizing with any pattern of basic knitting. The border has a wavelength of three loops, is not too striking and serves as a modest decoration.

Crochet Techniques

There are a lot of ways to crochet a thing, from the simplest to the most complex, which are laces several tens of centimeters wide. Even classic bindings have many variations of execution, as knitters try to bring something new - to modernize the basic patterns.

The use of knitted edging has certain advantages:

  • fixes the shape of the product,
  • prevents the edges from bending,
  • allows you to hide defects, for example, seams,
  • used as decoration
  • helps to update an old and boring thing.

Classic version of the pattern

After the thread is fixed at the left edge, it is necessary to perform the VP, then, lowering the hook into the next loop of the base, grab the thread. At this stage, the hook should have 2 loops crossed between each other.

Then you should knit the working thread through both loops. In the same way, the remaining loops running along the perimeter of the product are performed.

Double crochet step

This strapping looks voluminous, so it is recommended to use it on knitwear made of thick winter yarn. It is necessary to make a VP, then the yarn and pull the thread through the next loop of the base, so that there are 3 loops on the hook. Then they should be knitted all at once.

Then, in the same loop of the edge, it is necessary to repeat these steps 2 more times, and then close the fragment of the VP pattern. This pattern should be done as many times as is required for tying the product.

Bilateral Walking Step

The double-sided pattern is used when it is important that the product looks good from all sides. To do this, knit the VP and double crochet, then lower the hook into the next loop of the bottom row.

Then a hook is required to grab and stretch the thread through the loop. 3 loops formed on the hook should be knitted together. Next, you need to tie 1 VP and continue the pattern along the entire length of the product edge.

Crown Pattern

Work Stages:

  • It is necessary to tie the edge of the product with overcasting over the edge.
  • The first row will consist entirely of CH. Start the row with 3 VP to raise.
  • The second row is made of arches according to the following scheme: 1 VP for elevation, RLS, then you need to connect the arch formed by a chain of 4 VP, after 2 columns of the lower row you need to close the end of the arch, knitting 1 RLS.

  • At the beginning of the 3rd row, it is required to make 1 VP for raising and tie the first lower arch of the RLS. There should be 4. Next, you need to perform 2 sc to the middle of the second arch of the previous row. After you should tie a chain of 3 VP and close it with a connecting loop for the middle of the first arch.
  • Thus, the upper arch turned out. It must be tied in the form of a crown. To do this, on the 4th loop of the chain, you need to knit 1 sc, then make a chain of 3 loops and fasten its sc to 3 loop of the arch. Next, you need to make 2 more cloves: 1 RLS, a chain of 3 VP, 2 RLS, a chain of 3 VP. Arch in the form of a crown is ready.

Over the 2nd arch of the lower row, 2 RLS should also be knit, and on the 3rd arch - 4 columns. Next, 2 RLS on the 4th arch and again run a chain of 4 loops, which will close in the middle of the 3rd arch with a connecting loop. Next, you should knit in accordance with the description of the 1st arch-crown.

Trimming the edge "Caterpillar"

The type of strapping “Caterpillar” allows you to create a dense edging along the edge of the product, from which the thing takes on a finished look.

Work Stages:

  1. After fixing the working thread at the edge of the product, the hook must be passed into the outer loop and grabbing the working thread to pull it. There must be 1 loop on the hook. Next, through the next loop of the fabric, pull the thread again. The resulting 2 loops should be crocheted.
  2. The next loop must be done on the inside. To do this, you need to turn the product clockwise and, by analogy with the previous one, grab the loop with a hook, working from the wrong side. Next, you need to knit 2 loops immediately.
  3. The previous paragraphs were preparatory. Basic knitting should be performed following the indicated pattern.

Turning the product face up to you, you need to pass the hook through 2 loops of the previous row, then insert it into the fabric and, grabbing the thread, bring it out, knitting 2 loops at the same time. If everything is done correctly, then 2 loops on the hook will remain. Then they need to be knitted at the same time. Then the action must be repeated, but from the inside.

Alternate the specified knitting pattern along the entire perimeter of the workpiece. So that the edges where the braids are tied to close the row are not curled or bent, grabbing the loops when knitting the “Caterpillars” pattern is necessary not for the pigtail, but for the loops of the lower row.

Arched air loop

Stages of the rim of the arches:

  • In the first loop of the lower row should be performed RLS. If the arched row is the final one of the already tied strapping, then before the column you need to tie 1 VP for lifting.
  • Then you need to make a chain of 3 VP and RLS to fix, knitting them through the 2nd loop of the base.

  • In the 3rd and 4th loop of the base, it is required to perform according to the RLS.
  • Then, along the entire perimeter of the item to be tied, an alternation of a chain of 3 loops and 3 RLS should be performed.

Even such a simple method of strapping can be approached creatively. For example, to make arches from long chains, then they will look more like a fringe. In a knitted shawl, the arches consist of a chain of 20 VPs, which are fixed on the base using RLS.

In addition, arches of air loops can be done in several rows. In this case, the arches will be staggered. This strapping looks especially impressive on products made of thin fabrics - napkins or handkerchiefs. In this case, the threads need to be used thin, for example, sewing in bobbins.

How to crochet the edge of the product with the Pico pattern depends only on the taste of the needlewoman, since there are several options for this type of strapping.

Classic pico.

Pattern scheme: perform 3 scs, then a chain of 3 VPs. The loop ring should be closed in the 1st VP using SS. Then again do 3 sc. It is permissible to change the number of columns, and also instead of sc, perform with a crochet. Expanded pico.

With this type of pattern, the VP chain needs to be closed by the SS knitted in the extreme RLS chain. Great pico.

The chain should be made of 5 VP. Triple pico.

Having knitted 3 sc, you need to dial 3 vp and connect them into a ss ring made in the 1st VP, as in the case of “Classic pico”. Then knit another chain of 3 loops and close it in the same way.

And then another ring from the VP. Next, the loop located on the hook, you need to knit the SS in the extreme to the air loops of the RLS. Volumetric pico.

To make a voluminous circle, you should knit 3 VP, then perform 2 CH in the first loop of the chain. Next, you need to make another chain of 3 loops and close the resulting pico SS in the extreme RLS.

Border Pattern Ideas

How to crochet the edge of the product with a narrow border or wide openwork lace depends on the product that needs to be decorated, the thickness of the threads (since not every pattern is suitable for thick yarn), the taste of the needlewoman and her skills.

The fringe of curls looks original. She can draw a neckerchief (not necessarily knitted), as well as rugs or pillows.

You should carefully approach the choice of threads for a multi-colored edging, so that the final product looks interesting and beautiful, especially if it is clothing design.

Complex patterns require craftsmanship and a lot of time spent on the work. But the result is worth all the effort. Tying with a pattern of clothes allows you to create a completely new image.

Especially relevant are any knitted inserts and bindings for children's clothing. Armed with a crochet hook and approaching the question creatively, you can lengthen your clothes, disguise a hole, or just add a “twist” to your store item.

The useful ability to tie a hem with a lace or narrow hem provides a large space for experimenting with the image in clothes and variations in the appearance of home accessories.

How to crochet the edge of a product

Beginner needlewomen will be interested to know how to crochet the edge of a knitted product beautifully.Of the popular techniques used in the final stage of decoration, the crayfish step, pico technique and openwork patterns are distinguished. Each of them will look stylish and elegant, and the products will be refined and complemented. It is not difficult to make the necessary tricks due to the secrets used.

There are 2 methods of strapping:

  • directly on things - allows you not to waste time on carefully sewing on individual details, the thing is obtained in a romantic, vintage or ethno-style,
  • knitting the details of the rim and ruffle separately with the subsequent stitching - gives things a retro look.

Decorating the sides of things helps:

  • give a new style
  • keep the appearance of products made of loose soft yarn, which over time can stretch and deform,
  • decorate
  • hide flaws.

Walking harness

Known on the Internet is the crocheting of the edge of the product by the method of the crab step used to fix the shape of the thing. At the base of knitting are single crochet posts made in the opposite direction - from left to right. During knitting, the thread crosses in a special way and the pattern looks voluminous, beautiful, at the same time fixes the shape and does not allow the fabric to stretch. It is used for children's sweaters, scarves, shawls for adults.

To do this, you need to tie the sides with crochets around the entire perimeter. After this, the thing does not need to be turned over, and on the same side, the tool should be inserted into the loop to the right of it, pulled out and tied to the air lifting element. Then again you need to insert the hook into the right loop, grab the thread and knit 2 loops together. Repeat until the end until the whole thing is tied up.

How to crochet an edge using the picot technique

Not only clothing but also shoes can be crocheted using the picot technique. She looks airy and playful due to her small size. Pico or pique is a chain of several air loops, closed in a ring. There are 2 types of this pattern:

  • classic - the hook is inserted at the beginning of the fabric, 3 air loops are gathered, the tool returns to the beginning of knitting, the elements are knitted together.
  • shamrock - collect 3 air loops, make a circle using SS (connecting column), knit 3 more air elements, enter the beginning of the second leaf with a tool, knit the third leaf, put them together SS.

Crochet openwork edge

An openwork crochet of the edge looks no less attractive, which will require more time and perseverance. Need hook number 1 for the density of the pattern. First, we will deal with the notation that occurs in schemes:

  • VP, GP - air loop,
  • С1Н, СН - a column with 1 throwing,
  • C + digit (C3, C4) - a chain of a certain number of VP,
  • BN, RLS - column without throwing.

Knitting pattern in rows:

  1. All loops fit BN.
  2. 3 GP, repeat from CH, C2, CH, C7, loop skipping. To knit angle C13, the last element is connected to the first CH.
  3. Repeat: BN knit in C2, C4, BN in the middle of C7, C4. In the corners in the middle of Ts13 2 BN are knitted, between them 3 Ts5.
  4. Similar to the second.
  5. Similar to the third, in the corners of 3 C6.
  6. Similar to the second, in the corners of Ts15.
  7. The same as the third, in the corners of 3 C7.
  8. 3 GP, repeat: CH, C2, CH, C8. In the corners between CH fits Ts17.
  9. Repeat: all C8 are tied with 4 BN, clove-pico, 4 BN. Ts19 in the corners are tied: 3 BN, clove-pico, 3 BN, clove-pico, 3 BN, clove-pico, 3 BN.

Crochet the edges of the product

There are simple and complex descriptions and crochet patterns of the finished product. For beginners, it is better to go from the basics, gradually complicating the patterns. Experienced needlewomen can try complex, but beautiful patterns that will decorate a thing, make it more attractive. On the Internet you can find ready-made schemes with descriptions, photos, master classes, video lessons - all this will help to understand the issue and put into practice one of the binding methods.

Shawl edging

There are several options for crocheting the edges of the shawl:

  • the finished thing is tied with a row of single crochet, rotated to make arches: rapport of 3 air loops, 2 passes, 1 single crochet,
  • you can simply tie the shawl with any technique (hand-made step, pico) and make a magnificent fringe - for this, cut the threads of the desired length, fold 3-4 pieces in half, skip into narrow holes with braid,
  • a border made of 2 rows will be beautiful: in the first rapport of 2 crochets, a loop increase, a crochet with a stitch 2 loops together, 1 crochet, 1 pass, a crochet 4 times in 2 loops, 1 GP, 1 CH, in the second row - rapport from 3 BN, 5 GP.

Neckline sweatshirts

To create a dense crochet edge, it will be useful for beginners to know simple tricks and descriptions of finishing armholes:

  • identify the wrong side of the thing, lay the VP chain (chain stitch) along the front side - pierce the extreme columns in the middle, knit 2 loops from the crocheted column, 1 loop each, without it, 1
  • turn the thing inside out to yourself, tie the bar - from BN or without it, of any openwork pattern.

Crochet borders for a tablecloth

Cute scallops will become a stylish edge decoration for the corners of the tablecloth. For their execution there is a description, following which you can get a volumetric dense picture:

  • tie the first row with single crochet,
  • in the second row, rapport: 1 BN, skipping 2 loops, 4 CH in the next loop (2 VP fit between the columns), skipping 2 loops,
  • ends with a series of connecting thread.

For a beautiful patterned border below is the following pattern, which will be simple even for beginners:

  • knit VP first row,
  • the second is BN,
  • the third - 1 BN, 2 passes, from 1 loop knit 4 CH and 4 VP, repeat.

Crochet the edge of a plaid

A cozy warm plaid can become even brighter thanks to the lace border trim, knitted with one's own hand. It can be knitted separately and attached to a thing, or you can also separately knit a plaid - then the finish of the product will go with the same or contrasting thread. The first processing option is called seashells:

  • 3 VP, a chain of VP in a multiple of 6,
  • wrong side: 1 sc from 2 loops, then 1 sc from each element,
  • 3 VP, pass, 1 SN, rapport - 1VP, pass, 2С1Н, turn,
  • 5VP, 1 PRS, rapport - 4 VP, 1 PRS, last 2 - 2 VP, 1 SN,
  • VP, RLS, rapport - BN, increase, SN, increase, RLS.

The fringe from the rim for the rushnik will turn out when performing the spring pattern:

  • the base of the VP is knitted with 2 rows of BN,
  • VP, BN, rapport - BN, 15 VP, rotate, skip, 2 BN from each VP, half crochet in the BN at the base.

The mesh border is knitted across in short rows, a description for it:

  • Ts20,
  • 1 С1Н in the 6th loop, alternation - VP, pass, С1Н,
  • 4 VP, pass, С1Н, VP, С1Н, alternation 3 times– VP, pass, С1Н, alternation three times - VP, С1Н.

Crochet lace for tying the edge of the skirt

To process a wide skirt edge, there are options and patterns for knitting lace with various motifs (mesh, flowers, ruffles):

  • VP, BN chain,
  • 3 lifting VP, rapport - 2 VP, 1 С1Н through 2 BN,
  • alternation - 8 BN, 10 VP, return to the beginning, fix C10, tie 3 rapports from 3BN and pico from 3 VP, then 2 BN, pico from 3 VP, 2 BN.

The second option for lace processing the bottom of the skirt or dress design:

  • VP chain matches BN,
  • 3 lifting VP, rapport - 2 VP, 1 С1Н through 2 BN.
